SURCOUF

Surcouf unfolds on a small floating raft that drifts gently on the water—just stable enough, just sufficient, if it lasts until the final salute. Arriving at the rhythm of the water itself, two long-time companions prepare for a show that hasn’t quite begun yet. There are necessary rituals, clumsy adjustments, and perfectly pointless preparations. Nothing is rushed. Everything matters. Blending circus, risk, and understated humour, Surcouf is a tender, comic exploration of balance—physical, emotional, and existential. As the raft tips and wobbles beneath them, the performers reveal the quiet storms that hide beneath calm surfaces, the need to hold on, to support one another, and to stay the course when certainty dissolves. Gentle, absurd, and deeply human, this floating portrait of companionship will be performed on the water at Fremantle Fishing Boat Harbour, where the setting becomes part of the story and the water is always waiting.
